A wild orchid: Cypripedium marcanthum var. rebunense (1)

            The Cypripedium marcanthum var. rebunense is endemic to Rebun Island, which is among the northernmost inhabited islands in Japan. The orchid was endangered, but as the result of conservation efforts, the number is increasing. The labellum (the sack-like portion of the flower) is 3.5 to 5 cm long.
