            I went to another concert tonight. Lest you get the impression I am some sort of party animal (and with all of these photographs of me sewing my own cloth napkins and talking to my plants, how could you not?), let me say: I am happy to stay home pretty much all the time, but I can't resist live music. I love music. I have a weird, secret dream of being in a band. It's one of those things that, absurdly and inexplicably, feels like it's my destiny in the same way a little girl knows in her heart of hearts that it's her destiny to be a princess. 

The city is magical this time of year, warm and bright at what feels like every imaginable hour. I walked out of the theatre at 11 p.m. to a sky that was just beginning to lose the last of its blues.

I said goodbye to my brother on the street corner and headed for home. On the sidewalk, I looked at my phone for the first time in hours to see a text informing me that someone very dear to me, very far away, had died. She had been sick a long, long time, and this moment was expected, and prepared for, but oh, how I wish I could have been there with her - with all of them - in those final moments. How I wish I could be with them now.
