Secret village 2

            During the Second World War, the Hidden Village in Vierhouten (Gelderland, on the Veluwe) provided shelter for 80 to 100 members of the resistance, people in hiding, Jews, allies and even a deserted German soldier. The village at last consisted of nine dug-in shelters.
The hiding location was discovered by the Nazis (including Dutch SS men) in October 1944, with fatal consequences for 8 residents. The others managed to hide in the surrounding forest in time.
