The Winter Circus, also called the New Circus or Garage Mahy, is a former winter circus and hippodrome, converted into a meeting place with offices, catering and rock hall in 2017-2023, located in the Belgian city of Ghent.

After the first circus building was destroyed by fire in 1920, it was rebuilt in 1923 to the design of architect Jules Pascal Ledoux and offered space for 3,400 people. The winter circus was not only used as a circus but also for revues, variety programs and film screenings.

After the last circus performance (1944), the Nouveau Cirque closed its doors for good.

From 1947, the space was used as a garage by the Mahy family. The still existing facade on the Lammerstraat dates from 1958, with the then entrance to the car showroom on the ground floor and a living space above.

In 1978, this garage was closed, and the Mahy family used the circus until shortly before 2000 as a parking garage for their extensive collection of vintage cars, for which they were known in Belgium.

In 2012, an international architectural competition was held for the repurposing of the Winter Circus.

Since 2022/23, the Winter Circus has been a new meeting place in Ghent. A hub for technology companies, start-ups and scale-ups has been created around the central square. Below it, a rock hall for 500 music lovers. The former stage has been transformed into an auditorium and meetings can be held in the former horse stables.

Het Wintercircus, ook Nieuw Circus of garage-Mahy genoemd, is een voormalig wintercircus en hippodroom, in 2017-2023 omgebouwd tot ontmoetingsplek met kantoren, horeca en rockzaal, gelegen in de Belgische stad Gent.

Nadat het eerste circusgebouw in 1920 werd verwoest door een brand, werd het in 1923 naar het ontwerp van architect Jules Pascal Ledoux opnieuw opgebouwd en bood plaats aan 3.400 personen. Het wintercircus werd niet alleen gebruikt als circus maar ook voor revues, variétéprogramma's en filmvoorstellingen.
Na de laatste circusvoorstelling (1944) sloot de Nouveau Cirque definitief zijn deuren.

Vanaf 1947 werd de ruimte gebruikt als garage door de familie Mahy. De nog bestaande voorgevel aan de Lammerstraat dateert van 1958, met op het gelijkvloers de toenmalige ingang tot de autoshowroom en daarboven een woongelegenheid.

In 1978 werd deze garage gesloten, en gebruikte de familie Mahy het circus nog tot kort voor 2000 als parkeergarage voor haar ruime collectie oldtimers, waar ze in België bekend voor was.

In 2012 werd een internationale architectuurwedstrijd gehouden voor de herbestemming van het Wintercircus.

Sinds 2022/23 is het Wintercircus een nieuwe Gentse ontmoetingsplek. Rond het middenplein is een hub voor technologiebedrijven, start-ups en scale-ups gerealiseerd. Eronder een rockzaal voor 500 muziekliefhebbers. De vroegere scène is omgevormd tot auditorium en in de voormalige paardenstallen kan vergaderd worden.
