Georgia Queen

            The story of The Georgia Queen, seen here docked by the Promenade in Savannah, GA, is pretty impressive.  The boat was built in 1995 as a replica of 19th century Victorian sternwheelers.  It cost $14,000,000 (close to $30,000,000 in today’s money) accommodates one thousand guests for dinner and sightseeing, and is 230 feet long.  For a number of years the boat cruised the Mississippi River as a gambling facility.  Then it was brought through the Gulf of Mexico, around the tip of Florida, and up to to Savannah.  Somewhere along the way, the Georgia Queen received a $4,000,000 makeover; so as it tours the Savannah River, who knows what it’s worth today?
