Composing Lunch

            In a fish restaurant on an island of Erhai, a beautiful lake in the Chinese province Yunnan. At the top left you see my girlfriend discussing with the landlady and, crouched down, two other members of our tourist party, a young couple examining crayfishes. You can't see the fourth member of our five-person party, but you can see a man with a brown leather jacket, who seems to be very much interested in the vegetables.

On the picture at the bottom left he's also present and seems to be interested in my travel companions' choice of fish.

On the right you see the landlady weighing the fish, my girlfriend - and the man with the brown leather jacket, extremely present this time. Looking at this picture now I almost wonder why he didn't stand at our bedside the night after. But if you're involved in Chinese everyday life, you're getting so much used to these curious bystanders that you finally even don't notice them. Anything happening in the public area is watched by attentive onlookers. The Chinese are the most curious people in the world, I think.
