"Hühnergott" meets "Snake's Egg" - a photo on Flickriver

            "Hühnergötter" - im Bild links- (Feuersteinknollen mit herausgewaschenen Kreideeinlagerungen) findet man zB an der Ostsee. Lochsteine dieser Art  haben als schützende Amulette in ganz Europa und darüber hinaus eine Rolle gespielt.In der Schweiz und in Frankreich wurden sie zB an Kuh- und Pferdeställen aufgehängt, um das Vieh zu schützen.
Den zweiten Lochstein habe ich in Kalifornien am Meer gefunden.

These stones with a hole (Hagstones, Snake's Eggs, Adder Stones) were used as amulets. They were hung at the doors of horse and cow sheds to protect the animals. At the Baltic Sea where I found the one on the left (a flintstone with washed out parts of chalk) they are still called "Hühnergötter".
