Majestic Trumpeter Swan pose #2 - a photo on Flickriver

            A trumpeter swan in a majestic pose with wings spread backwards, Saanich, Vancouver Island, BC.

These swans from the Pacific Coast Population winter in British Columbia, after summering in Alaska. Trumpeters from Alaska begin the winter migration along the British Columbia coast around November 1 with peak populations in January or early February. Spring migration begins in mid- to late February, depending on the weather. (Source “Hinterland Who’s Who”). 

The Trumpeter swan (Cygnus buccinator) is the heaviest living bird native to North America and also the largest species of waterfowl with a wingspan that may exceed 10 ft (3.0 m)!
