The piano at La Posada Hotel & Gardens.

This is a very nice, inexpensive hotel.  It was the last of Fred Harvey's Great Railroad Hotels.

The hotel was designed by architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter.

La Posada---The Resting Place---was built in the 1920's and was to be the finest place in the Southwest.  Construction cost alone exceeded $1,000,000.00 in 1929, with the total budget for grounds and furnishings rumored to be about $2,000,000.00 (about $40,000,000.00 in today's dollars).  Winslow, AZ which was the Arizona Headquarters of The Santa Fe Railroad, was chosen as the site for the hotel.  The hotel was only open until 1957.  For several years it was used as offices for the Santa Fe Railroad.

La Posada was purchased by Allan Affeldt and he and his wife Tina Mion, a renowned artist who has provided most of the art for the hotel began an approximately $12,000,000.00 renovation in 1997 along with Daniel Lutzick who became the third partner and General Manager.

The hotel is also home to The Turquoise Room an excellent restaurant specializing in regional contemporary Southwestern cuisine under the direction of renowned Chef John Sharpe.

One other note:  La Posada is about 2-2 1/2 blocks from the Standing on the Corner location from the Eagles' song Take It Easy.
