Palmate Newt

            Palmate newt  (Lissotriton helveticus)

These newts are protected by law, I have hundreds in my wildlife pond, where they breed, I leave the pond alone!  the newts have plenty of places to hide and overwinter.
I netted this little chap to see if they were ok and all seemed very good!
It's great to have newts in the garden   "The gardeners friend! "
They eat slugs and other little bugs!
They breed in spring, and later in the year little newt tadpoles appear!
