DVLR No2 D2245 Murton 011125 CGee 102HC

            Some images from the Derwent Valley Light Railway in York from a night shoot I ran on Saturday night, raising funds for the railway.

The DVLR was built to serve agriculture between York and Selby, was never nationalised and in both the steam and diesel era hired in locomotives from the LNER/BR.

The line was truncated through the 1960s, eventually serving a grain driers at Dunnington before final closure in September 1981.

In 1969, the DVLR bought three class 04s so that it could operate trains itself, one being for spares.

D2245 as DVLR No.2 is now based at the railway, along with ex Isle of Wight 03, 03079. York based class 03s in BR blue would work the line in the late 1960s before the class 04s arrived.

The railway society now operates on a short section of the original DVLR adjacent to the Yorkshire Museum of Farming and has a great collection of industrial diesels that have operated in and around York.
