Hamburg Alt-Altona 02MB7167 sw - a photo on Flickriver

            Köhlbrandtreppe im Hamburger Stadtteil Alt-Altona.
Die imposante zum Hafen führende Treppe mit Kopfbau wurde 1887 eingeweiht und von den Hafenarbeitern auf dem Weg zur Arbeit genutzt.
In der Mitte der Wandfläche liegt ein Brunnen, welcher mit den Wappen von Altona und Preußen verziert ist. Darüber sind die beiden Gottheiten Merkur und Neptun als Symbole für den Handel und das Meer abgebildet.
Von der Treppe aus hat man einen Blick auf den Holzhafen, das älteste Hafenbecken, das 1722 angelegt wurde. Neben der Treppe befindet sich die traditionelle Hafenkneipe Schellfischposten. Bekannt aus der NDR 3 Sendung Ina´s Nacht.

Köhlbrand staircase in the Alt-Altona district of Hamburg.
The imposing stairway leading to the harbor was inaugurated in 1887 and used by dock workers on their way to work.
In the middle of the wall there is a fountain decorated with the coats of arms of Altona and Prussia. The two deities Mercury and Neptune are depicted above them as symbols for trade and the sea.
From the stairs you have a view of the wooden harbour, the oldest harbor basin, which was created in 1722. Next to the stairs is the traditional harbor pub Haddock Post. Known from the NDR 3 show Ina's Nacht.
