WWII Eastern Command Type Shellproof Pillbox, Audley End House, Saffron Walden.

            During WWII Eastern Command commissioned a number of variant forms for their area of operation, the most common is known as the ''Eastern Command Type'' and is an infantry variant of the Vickers MMG emplacement. It varies from that type by having Bren Embrasures in the three front faces and has a rear entrance rather than one side, which is covered by a very thick detached Blast Wall about 42in thick. They are most commonly found in the counties of Essex and Suffolk along the main Eastern Command Line and 64 examples remain extant.
