Garlic is golden... - a photo on Flickriver

            
or... well.... it almost cost me a gold coin last week.

I'm not sure what the game was...but, this is lovely Canadian garlic.  It used to cost me about 25 to 30 cents a head... smallish to medium heads..... 

Weighed and then charged for at the cashier's station.  This time...she held it up and said.... $2.49 each ... do you still want it?  WHAT??!!

Couldn't believe my ears... but, was so flabbergasted I just nodded... and, home I went with my groceries.

I'm still ticked with myself... I even thought about taking it back, but, then; gas and time and annoyance to do that ..??  no... didn't bother. 

I looked up garlic in the Safeway flyer online yesterday and the only one they show is 5 heads in a sleeve for 99 cents.  WHAT?? yet again!  No bulk garlic to compare ... what the heck is happening ... guess I'll have to wait until I shop again to talk to the produce manager ...if I can find him.  I think he sometimes hides if he sees me coming.....

I guess it's time to start using some minced garlic from a jar ... who will use 5 heads of garlic before the cloves get old and can't be sliced thinly or even crushed?
