Young and innocent... - a photo on Flickriver

            I think it is a younger one ... it still looks so innocent; although most of them in close-ups look very 'soft' and innocent to me. 
This flicker is an intergrade..a cross between a Red-shafted Northern Flicker and a Yellow shafted Northern Flicker.. the red malar stripes are common to male Red-shafted and the red nape crescent is a characteristic of the Yellow shafted... this one seems to have orange or more reddish under the tail... some have more yellow there.
The little spots make my eyes go a bit wonky as they seem to be almost blurred because they are on various layers of the downy feathers on the chest...
This is an older photo, but taken at about the same time of year...October... see that snow on the board?  Well, it's getting around to the time when that will be happening in this area.  Time to put out some seeds and nuts ...now where is that feeder pole?... hmmm... the chickadees are already lobbying for me to put it out.  They are flitting around close by and talking to me.....a lot.  Do they know something?  The weatherman says it will be a great sunny week.... so far.  Guess we'll see....
I haven't been out and about taking many photos lately (been staining a very long fence) ...  and I haven't seen any Flickers close enough to get good shots....so I rummaged through some old photos and decided on this one.
