            Den Landstrich der Tirschenreuther Teichpfanne hat man schon des Öfteren als Land der tausend Teiche bezeichnet. 3724 Teiche und Weiher soll es im Gebiet des Landkreises Tirschenreuth geben. Das entspricht einer Fläche von 15 Quadratkilometern. Im Zentrum dieses Gebiets grenzt Teich an Teich. Meistens sind sie voneinander nur durch einen Damm getrennt. Oft haben sie nur eine geringe Wassertiefe von einem bis zwei Metern. Nur einige Weiher mit moorigem Untergrund sowie einige aufgelassene Tongruben in der Wiesauer Gegend sind tiefer. Diese erreichen eine Tiefe von 10 bis 15 Metern. 

The area around the Tirschenreuther Pond Pan has often been referred to as the land of a thousand ponds. 3724 ponds and ponds are said to exist in the area of the Tirschenreuth district. This corresponds to an area of 15 square kilometers. In the center of this area there is pond to pond. Most of the time they are only separated from each other by a dam. Often they only have a shallow water depth of one to two meters. Only a few ponds with boggy subsoil and some abandoned clay pits in the Wiesau area are deeper. These reach a depth of 10 to 15 meters.
