Le rara-avis (l'oiseau rare) - a photo on Flickriver

            Le Rara Avis (littéralement « Oiseau Rare ») est une goélette à trois mâts de classe B. Il a été construit en 1957 aux Pays-Bas, au chantier naval de Terneuzen. Il est à coque acier noir et a la particularité d'être à fond plat, comme les barges anglaises de la Tamise et d'avoir un gréement marconi (ou voile bermudienne).

Désormais, le Rara-Avis appartient à l'Association du père jésuite Michel Jaouen (association des Amis Jeudi Dimanche). Michel Jaouen était surnommé « le curé des mers », et était célèbre pour son investissement auprès de jeunes atteints par la toxicomanie, moins connu pour celui envers les délinquants juvéniles et les convalescents psychiatriques, il a inauguré une méthode inédite de réadaptation par des croisières de longue durée sur des navires à voile où la liberté était l'argument, les jeunes, volontaires, n'étant astreints à aucune obligation.
