Icon Of German Air Transport - a photo on Flickriver

            As long as i live German Heavy Air Transport was conducted by the C-160 Transall. This aircraft was the backbone of the German Air Force, the modern Luftwaffe.
It flew various missions over decades but with the introduction of the A400M the days of the Transall are counted in the inventory of the Luftwaffe.
The Lufttransportgeschwader 63 (Air Transport Wing 63) at Hohn airbase is the last unit to commit these legend.

This capture was taken of a special shooting on occasion of the future retirement of the Transall.

More than 30 years ago i was member of that unit as a cold war warrior. That shooting was very special to me returning to  Hohn airbase after 30 years being part of the photo team. It is historic to me.
