The Meadows of Armentara are located between 1,600 and 2,000 m a.s.l. beneath the mighty rock faces of Mt. Sasso di Santa Croce.

At the western edge of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park there are some beautiful mountain meadows, characterised by a great variety of flowers in late spring and at the beginning of summer: the gentian, the globeflower and the alpine anemone grow here for example. Above the timber line the managed alpine pastures extend beneath the mighty rock faces of Mt. Sasso delle Dieci and the Sasso di Santa Croce Group. Also the famous Rif. Santa Croce (La Crusc) mountain hut with its homonymous pilgrimage church can be found here.

The Armentara Meadows (Roda de Armentara) cover a surface of 300 hectares and are accessible in a beautiful hike either from La Villa/Furnacia on the “Roda de Armentara” trail (1 hour) or from Badia/San Leonardo (90 minutes). In winter, however, they represent a popular destination for winter hikes: the snowy nature and the shining rocks create a very special atmosphere.

Die Armentara Wiesen (Roda de Armentara) befinden sich zwischen 1.600 und 2.000 m Meereshöhe unterhalb des Heiligkreuzkofels.

Am westlichen Rand des Naturparks Fanes-Sennes-Prags liegen wunderschöne Almwiesen, die besonders im Spätfrühling und Frühsommer durch ihre Blumenvielfalt beeindrucken: Hier wachsen u.a. Enzian, Schwefelanemonen und Trollblumen. Oberhalb der Waldgrenze breiten sich die von den Bauern bearbeiteten und geprägten Almen aus, und darüber thronen die Bergriesen des Zehners und der Heiligkreuzkofel-Gruppe, bekannt für das darunterliegende Heilig Kreuz-Hospiz mit Wallfahrtskirche (La Crusc in Ladinisch), ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel.

Die Wiesen von Armentara, die eine Fläche von 300 ha bedecken, sind von Wengen/Furnacia in ca. einer Stunde auf dem Weg “Roda de Armentara” erreichbar. Alternativ führt ein Weg auch von Abtei, genauer gesamt vom Ortsteil St. Leonhard, in ca. 90 Minuten zu den Almwiesen. Im Winter sind sie ein beliebtes Ziel einer Winterwanderung: Die tief verschneite Natur und die leuchtenden Felsen der Umgebung bilden eine faszinierende und unvergessliche Kulisse.
