collapsed A625 Mam Tor road nature reclaiming

            The A625 Mam Tor road closed to through traffic in 1979, it was originally built in 1819 by the sheffield turnpike company with spoil from the Odin mine, it linked castleton and Chapel en le frith, and bypassed the steeper Winnats pass, the trouble was it passed over the ancient Mam Tor landslip and as a result major roadworks occurred in  1912, 1935,1946, 1952, 1966, 1974, then eventually in 1979 it was decided that the force of millions of tons of rock pushing the road further downhill could not be overcome so was abandoned to nature
