Chirk aqueduct and viaduct - a photo on Flickriver

            The Chirk Aqueduct was built by Thomas Telford and was the forerunner of the Poncysyllte, the foundation stone was laid in 1796 being completed in 1801, 
for those interested in the stats 
it's length is 710 feet  as against 1008 for the Pontcysyllte
height is 70 feet  as against 126 for the Pontcysyllte 
spans 10 as against 18 for the Pontcysyllte, it is now a grade 2 listing in both England and Wales the Pontcysyllte is grade 1
the Railway Viaduct dates back to 1846- 1848 was originally built with timber piers but was rebuilt in 1858 with stone piers, was built by Scottish engineer Henry Robertson and this is 100ft high
