Happy St Valentine’s Day - a photo on Flickriver

Just wishing everyone on Flickr and their loved ones a Happy St Valentine’s Day.  Hope your day went well.

About 5 years ago, there was a small independent fashion shop that was closing down. The management put up a sign that said Everything must go, including fittings.

So I figured to ask if any one of those mannequins they have is on offer, and I was told I can have one for £60 (British currency).

I decided to buy one, and took it home.

I use it mostly for test shots, like if I get a new lens, I would test it out by taking photo of the mannequin. Or I may get a new flashgun, and test out the lightning.

It is also useful for pre-shoot communications with any models I’m booking.

For example: If I told the model that it will be a winter fashion style photo-shoot, and that I’m bringing a few fur coats as props, then asked her to see what shoes, or general fashion she got, that can go well with the fur coat.

It would be easier to put the faux fur coats on the mannequin, take a full-length photo, send it to the model, who would then reply with stuff like “I know the right kind of jeans and T-shirt for it.”

If I’m not using it for a test shot, I can always leave it by the front door, put on one of those fishing vests or photographer’s vest, you know, like a vest with plenty of pockets. So I can leave my car keys, house keys, sunglasses, baseball cap, gloves, whatever I often need to take with me when going out, in any of those pockets.

Anyway, thought to grab a test shot of the mannequin, and add a Happy St Valentine’s day message to all of you.
