Moving out of eclipse plumage? - a photo on Flickriver

            I'm still learning about ducks and when I captured this one I scratched my head. A Mallard of course, but initially I thought this was a young drake, which it might be. But then I read how they molt from their iridescent green to a drab female like brown, called the eclipse. However, this bird appears to be molting into the breeding plumage given the green coming in on his head. So, it's either a young drake moving into breeding plumage or an older drake moving through the eclipse stage.
