Snow capped Pioneer Peak - a photo on Flickriver

            Pioneer Peak is the highest mountain in the Mat-Su Valley at 6,398 feet. We know that winter is starting when it snows at the higher elevations. The first snow is called termination dust. Well, this is more than dust on Pioneer Peak and winter is firmly upon us as the cold and snow begins to move down from the higher elevations towards the communities of Palmer and Wasilla near the valley floor. I focused this shot on the mountain top and its snow, not the whole of the mountain.
