Lunch to go - a photo on Flickriver

Lunch to go

            Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado. I watched this female American kestrel make a swift drop from the power line to the roadside ditch below and come up with this little vole. I admit it was difficult to watch but fascinating. Most of the prey I've seen taken by raptors were already dead and being eaten. It's all part of the nature cycle, though our hearts usually go out to the underdog…I mean, mouse!
