Tay Road Bridge from the Fife landfall looking to Dundee - postcard view.

            Postcard view (Colourmaster International) titled Dundee and the Tay Bridge from the South. That should really be the Tay Road Bridge, the Tay Bridge being the historic rail bridge which opened 79 years before the road bridge opened in 1966. This card was posted in Edinburgh in 1979. The 50 ft tall monument to the five workers who died during construction is in the shape of one of the bridge pillars. The roadway descends from 125 ft above sea level at the Fife end at Newport-on-Tay to 32 ft above sea level at the Dundee landfall. The ferry service between Dundee and Newport - operated by the Dundee Harbour Trust after 1873 - ceased with the opening of the road bridge.
