Ex-Glasgow Corporation Transport single decker trolleybus TBS13 at Riverside Museum, Glasgow.

            Glasgow Corporation Transport had introduced its first trolleybus route in 1949 but this single deck trolleybus - the only trolleybus in the museum - dates from 1958. The Burlingham bodied BUT RETB1 vehicle has been on display in the Riverside Museum (which had opened in 2011) since 2017. It was one of ten 35 ft vehicles purchased in 1958 for the final tram to trolleybus conversion (the last in the UK as well) when tram service 12 (Mount Florida to Paisley Road Toll) was replaced by trolleybus service 108 on 15 November 1958 with new peak hour workmen’s services extended to Linthouse (as the screen shows on TBS13) or Shieldhall. These peak hour extension were replaced by diesel buses in 1964 to avoid permanent route diversions in the vicinity of the southern portal of the new Clyde Tunnel. TBS13 made the last service run by a single deck trolleybus in Britain on 03 March 1967, just weeks before the last Glasgow trolleybus services ran on 27 May. The vehicle was subsequently retained for preservation and was on display in Glasgow’s first Museum of Transport at Albert Drive until 1988 when the museum moved to Kelvin Hall. When the Kelvin Hall location closed in April 2010, the vehicle was placed in store until reappearing at the new Riverside Museum six years later. When in service, TBS13 was based at Hampden Garage, with all the other trolleybuses in the city’s fleet.
