Lothian 1092 at Pier Place, Edinburgh.

            Fleet number 1092 was seen picking up passengers at Pier Place next to attractive Newhaven harbour on the city’s Firth of Forth shoreline. The present harbour dates from the mid 19th century, the lighthouse from 1869. The Fish Market building - out of sight to the right - was added in the 1890s. Tbe fishing harbour began to be swamped by the neighbouring Port of Leith between 1937 and 1942 with the construction of the Western Breakwater creating the sheltered Western Harbour. Land to the east of Newhaven began to be reclaimed for industrial and maritime activity and in the first decade of the 21st century, much of the Western Harbour has now been infilled for new housing, some of which can be seen rising up beyond the leisure centre and motel in the middle distance. Tri-axle 1092 is operating on route 16 from Silverknowes to Colinton. The normally busy route continues via Leith and the city centre and Morningside
