Mount Gambier Hotel built 1862 - Acted as booking office for coaches carrying Her Majesty's Royal Mail. South Australia

            Mount Gambier Hotel built, licensed and sited where Jens now stands.
It was the first hotel in Gambierton, 1847.
Re-built here 1862, it acted as booking office for coaches carrying Her Majesty’s Royal Mail.
Plaque presented by owner, Guy Mathews, to commemorate the S E Mail Coach Re-enactment Run  130 years later. 

Built 1862 by Alexander (Sandy) Mitchell.
About 1867 saleyards and stable were located at rear.
Billiard room added in 1869.
1902 verandah added. 
1954 sold for record price of £100,000.
