North Carolina Forest Heritage Scenic Byway Spring Waterfall Pisgah National Forest

            ~Looking Glass Falls~

Considered one of the most visited and picturesque waterfalls in North Carolina, Looking Glass Falls is a 60-foot single tier wonder located just off the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway in Pisgah National Forest outside Brevard.

Located along Looking Glass Creek, this body of water gets its name from neighboring Looking Glass Rock, which trailhead can be accessed just off Fish Hatchery Road on the right before entering the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education.

Looking Glass Falls can easily be viewed from the roadside parking area, but to get a full feel for the falls one needs to venture down to the base along the creek.

Stairs will guide you most of the way, but caution should be used when crossing over the fence and traversing the slippery rocks down to the water.

The intensity of the water, which will vary depending on the amount of rain received, creates a continuous breath of cooling mist, making close-up photography a challenge.

The wind generated by the force of the water further causes the surrounding vegetation to be in near constant motion, adding an additional challenge to any form of long-exposure photography.

Nevertheless, this is a favorite waterfall of mine and I want to continue to add more images of it in other seasons and conditions to my resume.
