Holey Dock Leaf + Green Dock Beetle larvae

After trying not to get my feet wet from wading up the edge of the path, as carefully as possible, in not the best footwear for the job - something told me to look back to see a burst of sunlight shining through. 

Thinking I'd just seen an owl behind me, quartering above the reed bed before EM hide, I was unfortunately too slow to get a shot of it.
This lone dock leaf shone through though and now I have been able to see it on the screen, there is clearly some shadows of insects behind enjoying eating it. They look a similar shape to beetles or some sort of larvae?

Also -
In the water on the path, I noticed a tadpole swimming and a three inch fish, moving across the stones underneath.
