“You are very quiet this morning, Theo, are you feeling grumpy again?” asked Barnaby sitting next to his friend.
“No, Barnaby, but thank you for asking. I am just wondering, that is all.”
“I do that at times, what are you wondering about?”
“This stuff that hoomans call weather, strange stuff.” He replied looking at all his friends for confirmation.
“If it has anything at all to do with hoomans then it will always be strange.” Agreed Bertie.
“Yes, I quite agree, Bertie. I saw the man only this morning talking on his jellybone about the weather. I doubt the jellybone understood what he was on about, but I suppose it made the man feel better.” Said Theo.
“Yes, I have never worked out why he speaks to that, Theo, it doesn’t appear to answer him. I dare say it is like the picture taking machine, he likes the idea but has no idea what it is all about.” Said Sky
“Sky, do hoomans like the stuff they call weather?” Asked Theo looking a bit anxious as to what the reply would be.
“I think with hoomans, Theo, you will find that they appear to like most things some of the time but nothing all the time. They are so different from us bears, for if you give them honey every day, they would refuse, they are constantly changing their minds. With us bears, we either like it or we don’t and if we do, we are happy to have it all the time.” Explained Sky.
“Why do you ask, Theo?” Asked Posh Bear.
“Well Posh, it is a confusing story, you see, I was looking for you guys a few days ago and I happen to go into that room the man calls the bathroom.”
“I have been in there, it is a strange room, Theo.” Chimed in Barnaby and received a disapproving look from Posh.
“What I saw was most strange, you see the man was standing under some wet stuff that was falling from a strange looking thing and he was getting very wet. Now, what makes it even stranger is that outside water was also falling from the air. I cannot understand what makes the man want to get wet inside here, having gone to all the trouble of fitting a top on this place where we live, when he could take a walk outside and get just as wet.”
“That is very strange, I have seen him do that myself. Why does he do that, Sky?” Barnaby asked his genius friend.
“It is a hooman thing, guys. I agree it makes no sense but then a lot of things hoomans do make no sense to us bears. What makes it even less understandable is, when the man goes outside and there is water falling in the air and instead of getting wet as one would expect, he puts this portable roof up and carries that around. He is quite bonkers you see, Theo. It would be easier to understand buzzy thing talk than to understand hoomans.”
“I agree, Sky, they are very strange, have you noticed that when it is hot then try and cool down and yet when it is cool they try and warm up. No pleasing hoomans.” Said Bertie.
“Yes, Bertie, I noticed that too. I wonder why they have weather if they are unable to get it right. It was no doubt a decent idea that a hooman had many sleeps ago, but by now they should have realised it was never going to work and so given it up as a bad job.” Said Posh Bear.
“I wondered why they go to sleep the same time as it become dark and get up the same time as the light comes back on. Why don’t they do what us bears do and that is sleep when we get tired.” Said Barnaby.
“I doubt they know or understand why they do it themselves, Barnaby. I dare say many sleeps ago a group of hoomans thought it a good idea and so everyone followed them and did the same. Now, they have become so used to doing it, they do it automatically.” Said Posh Bear.
“Posh, what is automatically?” Asked Theo.
“Without thinking.” Replied Posh Bear.
“Right, that makes sense then.” Agreed Theo and the other bears all nodded their heads in agreement.
