Blankenburg (Harz): Georgenhof in der Herzogstraße - Georgenhof (St. George's Court) in Herzogstraße (Duke Street)

            Bereits in der Zeit um 1215 wurde eine Stiftung gegründet, die der Pflege an Lepra erkrankter Kreuzritter diente. Die Einrichtung bestand im Bereich des Kloster Michaelstein. Etwa 1318 wurde der Zweck der Stiftung verändert und die Anlage als Armenhof näher an die Stadt Blankenburg, etwa in den Bereich des heutigen Bahnhof Blankenburg (Harz) verlegt.
Der heutige Standort wird jedoch erst in der Zeit nach 1700 gewählt. Zunächst wurde hier von 1715 bis 1717 eine Heilig-Geist-Kapelle errichtet, bis 1737 dann barocken Gebäudeflügel . Sie sind als zweigeschossige verputzte Gebäude im massiver Bauweise ausgeführt. 1750 wurden die Seitenflügel fertig, Im Georgenhof befindet sich heute  die Lutherkirche, er wird als evangelisches Gemeindezentrum genutzt und umfasst auch Räumlichkeiten für diverse insbesondere soziale Zwecke.

However, the present location was not chosen until after 1700. Initially, a chapel of the Holy Spirit was built here from 1715 to 1717, followed by baroque wings until 1737. They are designed as two-storey plastered buildings in massive construction. The side wings were completed in 1750. Today Georgenhof is home to the Luther Church, it is used as a Protestant community centre and also includes rooms for various, particularly social, purposes.
