Leipzig, Gohliser Schlösschen: Uhr am Turm - Leipzig, Gohlis Manor: Clock on the tower

            In den Jahren 1755/56 ließ sich der Leipziger Ratsherr und Ratsbaumeister Johann Caspar Richter (1708–1770) im nordwestlich von Leipzig gelegenen Dorf Gohlis ein Sommerpalais erbauen. Das Grundstück, auf dem der Bau errichtet wurde, entstand durch Zusammenlegung zweier aneinandergrenzender Bauerngüter, die Christiana Regina Richter, der Ehefrau des Bauherrn, gehörten.
Wegen der hohen Kontributionszahlungen, die Richter als wohlhabender Leipziger Bürger im Siebenjährigen Krieg zu leisten hatte, verzögerte sich der Innenausbau. Nach dem Tode Johann Caspar Richters im Jahre 1770 vollendete diesen der nächste Ehemann der Witwe Richters, Johann Gottlob Böhme (1717–1780), Professor für Geschichte an der Leipziger Universität. Dabei schuf der Leipziger Maler und Bildhauer Adam Friedrich Oeser die Gemälde im Festsaal des Schlösschens. Das Schlösschen kann in dieser Zeit als ein geistiges Zentrum angesehen werden. 793 fiel das Gohliser Schlösschen testamentarisch an die Stadt LeipzigNach einer Sanierung 1934/35 wurde es als „Haus der Kultur“ der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht und für kulturelle Veranstaltungen genutzt. Von 1951 bis 1985 hatte auch das Bach-Archiv Leipzig hier seinen Sitz. Bei der Generalsanierung von 1990 bis 1998 wurde das Gebäude wieder in den Zustand des 18. Jahrhunderts versetzt. Ab 1998 betrieb das Kulturamt der Stadt Leipzig das Haus. Ende 2003 erzwangen Sparmaßnahmen die Schließung. Seit 2004 ist der Freundeskreis Gohliser Schlösschen e.V. der Betreiber der Anlage. Die Räumlichkeiten werden für Konzert- und Theaterveranstaltungen, sowie Ausstellungen genutzt. Der Hauptbau des Gohliser Schlösschens ist eine etwa 40 Meter breite Dreiflügelanlage mit nur vier Meter langen Seitenflügeln zur Hofseite. Der Risalit am Mittelteil ist zur Hofseite eben und zur Gartenseite nach außen gewölbt und jeweils durch Lisenen leicht gegliedert. Darüber erhebt sich ein 56 Meter hoher turmartiger Aufbau, weshalb die Anlage früher auch Turmgut genannt wurde. Wegen der Hanglage ergibt sich außer dem Erd- und Obergeschoss der Hofseite auf der Gartenseite noch ein Sockelgeschoss. An den Risaliten und dem Turmaufbau befinden sich Schmuckelemente des Rokoko (Rocaillen). Von allen großbürgerlichen Schloss- und Gutsanlagen der Barockzeit, die in und um die reiche Handelsstadt Leipzig verstreut lagen, ist das Gohliser Schlösschen das letzte noch erhaltene, weil es nicht – wie viele barocke Prachtbauten der Innenstadt auch – der Grundstücksspekulation um 1900 zum Opfer fiel.

In the years 1755/56, the Leipzig councilman and council architect Johann Caspar Richter (1708-1770) had a summer mansion built in the village of Gohlis, northwest of Leipzig. The plot of land on which the building was erected was created by merging two adjoining farms, which belonged to Christiana Regina Richter, the wife of the builder.
Because of the high contribution payments Richter had to make as a wealthy citizen of Leipzig during the Seven Years' War, the interior construction was delayed. After the death of Johann Caspar Richter in 1770, the next husband of Richter's widow, Johann Gottlob Böhme (1717-1780), professor of history at Leipzig University, completed the interior. The Leipzig painter and sculptor Adam Friedrich Oeser created the paintings in the ballroom of the mansion. During this period, the mansion can be regarded as a spiritual centre. 
In 1793, Gohlis Manor was bequeathed to the city of Leipzig, which later sold it, but bought it back in 1906. After renovation in 1934/35, it was opened to the public as a "House of Culture" and used for cultural events.  From 1951 to 1985, the Leipzig Bach Archive also had its headquarters here. During the general renovation from 1990 to 1998, the building was restored to its 18th century condition. From 1998 the Cultural Office of the City of Leipzig operated the building. At the end of 2003, cost-cutting measures forced the building to close. Since 2004 the Assosciation of friends of  Gohlis Manor  has been the operator of the facility. The premises are used for concerts, theatre events and exhibitions. The main building is an approximately 40-metre wide three-wing complex with side wings only four metres long on the courtyard side. The risalite in the central part is flat on the courtyard side and vaulted outwards on the garden side and is slightly structured by pilaster strips. Above it rises a 56-metre-high tower-like structure, which is why the complex was formerly known as "Tower Estate". Due to the hillside location, there is a basement floor on the garden side in addition to the ground floor and upper floor on the courtyard side. At the risalites and the tower construction there are rococo decorative elements  (rocailles). Of all the upper middle-class palaces and estates of the Baroque era scattered in and around the rich trading city of Leipzig, Gohlis Manor is the last one still preserved because it did not fall victim to the property speculation around 1900, as did many of the magnificent Baroque buildings in the city centre.
