Schloss Caputh: Fenster - Caputh Palace: Window

            Schloss Caputh ist das älteste, erhalten gebliebene Lustschloss aus der Zeit des Großen Kurfürsten Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg in der Potsdamer Kulturlandschaft. Es blickt auf eine über 350-jährige Geschichte zurück. In dem kleinen, kostbar ausgestatteten Landhaus an der Havel sind im Festsaal und in den fürstlichen Gemächern Stuckaturen und Deckengemälde aus dem späten 17. Jahrhundert zu entdecken. Das Schloss ist ein kunsthistorisches Juwel, das wie wenige andere Schlösser die wechselvollen Zeiten fast unverändert überstand. Die museale Einrichtung zeugt von der hohen Qualität fürstlicher Wohnkultur um 1700.
Ab 1671 ließ die Kurfürstin Dorothea, die zweite Gemahlin der Großen Kurfürsten, das Schloss verschönern. Glanzvolle Feste erlebte es auch unter Friedrich III., ab 1701 König Friedrich I. in Preußen. 1709 empfing er hier Friedrich August I. von Sachsen, (genannt August der Starke) und Friedrich IV. von Dänemark zum Dreikönigstreffen.
Friedrich Wilhelm I. ließ den Sommerspeisesaal mit ca. 7500 niederländischen Fayencefliesen einrichten. Im 18. Jahrhundert wurde das Gebäude verpachtet und später von der Krone verkauft. Ab 1947 diente es als Berufsschule.
Seit 1999 erstrahlt das Schloss wieder in barockem Glanz und steht der Öffentlichkeit erstmalig in seiner Geschichte als Schlossmuseum zur Verfügung.

Caputh Palace is the oldest preserved pleasure palace from the time of the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg in the Potsdam cultural landscape. It looks back on more than 350 years of history. In the small, preciously furnished country house on the Havel, stucco and ceiling paintings from the late 17th century can be discovered in the ballroom and in the princely chambers. The palace is a historical art jewel that survived the eventful times almost unaltered like few other palaces. The museum furnishings testify to the high quality of princely living around 1700.
From 1671 the Electress Dorothea, the second wife of the Great Elector, had the palace embellished. It also experienced splendid festivities under Frederick III, from 1701 King Frederick I in Prussia. 1709 he received here Friedrich August I. of Saxony, (called August the Strong) and Friedrich IV. of Denmark for the Three King Meeting.
Frederick William I had the summer dining hall furnished with about 7500 Dutch faience tiles. In the 18th century the building was leased and later sold by the Crown. From 1947 it served as a vocational school.
Since 1999 the castle has been restored to its baroque splendour and is now available to the public as a museum for the first time in its history.
