Illusionistische Malerei auf der Fassade eines Hauses zwischen Violinengasse und Königstraße

            Bad Freienwalde liegt an der Alten Oder am Nordwestrand des Oderbruchs am Übergang zum Barnimplateau. Daher rührt auch der für Brandenburger Verhältnisse extrem große Höhenunterschied von fast 150 m innerhalb des heutigen Stadtgebiets.Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung von Freienwalde erfolgte als Vrienwalde im Jahr 1316. Im Jahr 1685 beschrieb Bernhard Friedrich Albinus die 1683 entdeckte Heilquelle (heute „Kurfürstenquelle“) und legte damit den Grundstein für Entwicklung des Ortes zur Kurstadt. Heute ist die Stadt anerkanntes Moorbad.
