These are more examples of Essex Church images that show the Architecture, the Interiors, the Exteriors and especially the Stained Glass Windows that I have taken over the last year or two.  Hope you enjoy them as much as I did visiting them.  

Coggeshall is a village about 8 miles from Braintree in an easterly direction.  St Peter ad Vincula (St Peter in Chains) was constructed in the early 15th century, although there has been worship on the site from around 1068.  The north aisle and a great extent of the west end and tower were damaged in 1940 after an air-raid, full resptoration finished in 1956.  The east window was manufactured by the London firm, Clayton and Bell was dedicated in 1866 to the Hanbury Family.  This was repaired after being damaged in the war.
The large oak doors were made by a local woodcarver, a Mr Barleyman and the porch gates were added in 1869 for the princely sum of £5.10s.
Part of St Peter’s is the Gatehouse Chapel of St Nicholas.  This was used by travellers and those not permitted to enter Coggeshall Abbey of which the gatehouse was part of.  The Abbey itself was destroyed during the disolution but the chapel survived.
