Thanks, Alan

            High St, Fremantle.

When Alan Bond's yacht Australia II won the 1983 America's Cup, he also won the right to hold the next race in Fremantle.

At that time 'Freo' was the neglected and run-down neighbour of Perth city itself, which had benefitted from WA's mining boom in the 60s and 70s. Fremantle had retained many of its historic buildings due to a lack of interest and money.

A shed load of money was spent sprucing up Fremantle in (correct) anticipation of the many people who would come there for the 1987 defense of the cup. 

Consequently, Fremantle has stayed the jewel in greater Perth's crown and is my favourite go-to place for photo jaunts.
