Midland Railway Workshops - a photo on Flickriver

            The first railway workshops in Western Australia were located at Fremantle but all such work was shifted to Midland in 1904.

The Midland Railway Workshops were involved with all WA Government Railway rolling stock, engine construction and maintenance. Steam engines continued to operate on mainline services until 1971, and all major maintenance occurred at the Workshops.

The Workshops were closed by the then State Government in 1994 despite protests and rallies held to save them.
