Boarstall Tower from the garden - a photo on Flickriver

            Boarstall Tower is the surviving gatehouse of a 14th-century military building, later updated in 1615.

The grade I listed building is surrounded by large gardens and a moat.

Built by John de Handle in 1312, Boarstall House was a large fortified house surrounded by a moat. It was much changed in 1615, updated for use as a hunting lodge, though it still retained original period features.

The gardens date from before the 17th century. Between 1777 and 1925, the gardens were used for pasture, after which the formal layout was restored.
