The Woolley Mausoleum - a photo on Flickriver

            The mausoleum was erected following the death of Lambert Graham Eaton Woolley (1874-1896) whose bust smiles down from the roundel over the door.  He was the eldest son of William Abram Woolley, retired member of the HBM Consular Service, and his wife, Maria.  Although Lambert died in Colombo, his body was exhumed and brought back to England in 1897 for burial in the mausoleum.

A Gothic Revival mausoleum, built in Portland stone with an iron door.  The unusual thing here is the addition of the slightly naïve but charming sculpture; chubby angels stand in for the usual pinnacles at the corners of the roof, and stone doves flutter down towards the roundel containing the bust of the smiling young man over the door.
