DSC_9004 Female Mallard on submerged log

            While driving north on Oregon Hwy 101 near Neskowin, I noticed a shaded lagoon with a submerged log on which a female mallard was resting.  With a wide pull-out area, I was able to stop and capture a few frames before she noticed me, got up and swam away.  As she rose, the shaft of light caught the beautiful purple of her speculum feathers...and with that flash she was gone and so was the light!
