Fort Davis National Historic Site - 1974

            Fort Davis in west Texas is one of the best surviving examples of an Indian Wars' frontier military post in the Southwest.

From 1854 to 1891, Fort Davis was strategically located to protect emigrants, mail coaches, and freight wagons on the Trans-Pecos portion of the San Antonio-El Paso Road and on the Chihuahua Trail.

My mom is in the picture walking toward the row of officers' quarters.  The buildings face the parade grounds.

Ft. Davis was her favorite place in Texas.  It makes me happy to know that I was the one to introduce her to Ft. Davis.  Over the next 20 years, she usually managed to stop there on most vacations.
