            You might say I finished up some last-minute Christmas shopping today, catching a few black crappies so my dad can have delicious fresh fish fillets on Christmas Day. He's not able to navigate on slippery ice anymore, but he always used to take me out ice fishing over the Christmas holiday when I was a little kid. It's truly amazing to see how ice fishing tackle and techniques have changed from those simple times 60 years ago.  Back then, Dad would hack a hole in the ice with his hatchet and we would fish with plain hooks tipped with minnows below a red/white bobber. We still caught plenty of crappies like this without the aid of fancy augers or fish finders, but ice fishing as a winter tradition is still as fun today as it was way back when.
