            I hope everyone is safe and warm and celebrating the season at this special time of year! Here's a look inside my dad's house at Christmas time. He did taxidermy on the side to support his family for most of his life. Besides doing work for customers from across the Midwest who sought him out since he made such lifelike replicas, he mounted many of his own takes and finds that now fill the house with wildlife. The Christmas tree is created from some of the antlers taken off white-tailed deer bucks that he shot with a bow and arrow. My mom gave him a bow and some arrows for a present at their first Christmas together after getting married. Of course he had to put that gift to good use, so he practiced up and was one of the first archers in Iowa to hunt deer with bow and arrow in the modern age. He hunted deer with archery equipment for more than 60 years before failing health kept him out of the field for the past couple seasons.
