Twilight's Last Gleaming - a photo on Flickriver

Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico

Aspen leaves, soaking in their last light of the day, in the last phase of their life cycle before autumn winds shed them. Aspen trees normally turn a bright yellow in autumn but some years, like this one, they can turn pale red. At sunset they give off this fiery glow, and it's stunningly bright and beautiful.

Santa Fe National Forest is 1.6 million acres of mountains, valleys and mesas ranging from 5,000 to 13,000 feet in elevation. Dense forests, colorful volcanic formations, deep river gorges and even archaeological sites left by ancient pueblo people make this area a wonderful outdoor destination. With the major New Mexico city of Santa Fe nearby, it's also very easy to visit.
