Garden of The Gods, Colorado Springs

Between North Gateway and South Gateway rocks is a much smaller formation known as the Twin Spires. They are popular with climbers for easy access and short duration ascents. Here at the Red Twin, a 50 foot sandstone tower, you can see a free climber at the bottom of the shot top roping the “Potholes” route up the east face. The other spire to the right is the White Twin. With the Twin Spires’ immediate proximity to heavily-trafficked paved paths, climbers can expect an audience any time they are using the Twins, and can get cheers from their “audience” as they reach the top.

Garden of the Gods State Park attracts more than two million visitors a year, which is not surprising considering its incredible beauty and unique landscapes. Popular for hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking and horseback riding, it’s a wonder that the area has not been elevated to be a full National Park. Just west of Colorado Springs, home of the US Air Force Academy, it is free and can get very busy during peak hours. And the park is absolutely worth the trip to see it.
