Autumn Dreams on Cloudy Days - a photo on Flickriver

Falling Spring Falls, Alleghany Highlands, Virginia

This beautiful waterfall may have a redundant name, but it is a wonderful sight to behold, especially in Autumn. One would think it requires a major hike to get to, but this 80 foot waterfall is actually so easy to visit that the experience almost feels like cheating. It’s within full view of Hot Springs Road (Route 220) in Alleghany County, just 5 miles north of Covington, Virginia. There is a small but convenient parking lot and an overlook practically created for landscape photographers. And you can easily make it a photography twofer, as the charming Humpback Covered Bridge (built in 1857) is only 11 miles down the road.

Single long exposure processed in Capture One. It was such a cloudy day, I didn't need an ND filter to get 20 seconds.
