Vallecito Reservoir, Colorado - a photo on Flickriver

The unusual afternoon light on the opposing hillside here at Vallecito Reservoir was too much to resist, even though it was not the most convenient place to stop on Road 501. Catching the moon in the upper left was a bonus....

Vallecito Lake is one of the largest bodies of water in Colorado. Vallecito, Spanish for "Little Valley", lies in a secluded mountain valley 8,000 feet above sea level and was formed by an earthen dam constructed in 1940 by the United States Bureau of Reclamation. The lake is located in the Southwestern part of the state, just 18 miles from Durango and is fed by the Los Pinos River.
