NYC Wyton Tower - a photo on Flickriver

NYC Wyton Tower

            Here is a John Fuller photo of a Conrail train grabbing orders at Wyton Tower.  Wyton was located at the north side of Danville, Illinois on NYC's Egyptian line. This is a location I don't know a whole lot about, but I believe the P&E had a wye here and the Pekin Secondary branched off here.  The original tower was of the stilted type and was demolished or a train derailed into it sometime in the 40's or 50's.  Seen here is CR #7967 and crew grabbing orders.  Train is northbound from Lyons coming around the east leg of the wye. The operator who worked here was named Ivan "The Terrible" Mitchell, who allegedly could handle 3 phones at the same time.  I don't have much on this location, but I do have a set of orders I will post next.

CR GP38-2 #7967 was built by EMD as PC #7967 in May of 1972.  It looks as though the locomotive had just been re-lettered as it would later say "Conrail" instead of "CR" across the nose.
